In conjunction with events scheduled the same day in Washington D.C., a rally and march against the United States' actions in Iraq is scheduled for noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in Petoskey.
The event is planned to begin at the Peace Pole at Mineral Well Park in Petoskey (on Lake Street, across from City Hall ), followed by a march through town to People's Corner (Mitchell St. & U.S. 31). Please spread the word, paint signs, make peace, not war.
The local event is sponsored by Northern Michigan People for Peace, the Emmet County Green Party and the Up North Green Party.

"Pentagon officials admit they intend for the U.S. to maintain a force of 150,000 troops in Iraq, at a cost of $4 billion a month, for ‘the foreseeable future.’ Every day, vital social programs in the U.S. are being eliminated as the Bush administration manipulates its ‘war on terrorism’ slogan in pursuit of its real goal: Stealing from the poor and giving to the rich.
This war, and the administration waging it, have isolated the United States from the world community, decimated our economy, caused environmental havoc and immeasurable suffering.  It’s time to stop this madness."
