Emmet Chapter Minutes

PLEASE NOTE: Next meeting is 11/13/02 from 7-9:00 p.m. The newly-formed Green Party of Emmet County met at the Horizons Book Store in Petoskey on October 30, 2002, at 7:00 p.m. There were 25 people in attendance. The group introduced themselves and their reaons for being at the meeting and interest in the Green Party. A brief discussion of the general pillars of the Green party as well as what the members feel the primary goals of this new chapter should be was held. It was felt the goals should be: Education of both party members and the public. Being a watch dog for local issues. Develop candidates for local elections. BY-LAWS: In order to become an official Chapter of the Green Party, we must develop by-laws. A committee with Steve Brede, Alan Hegedus, Tim Freeman, and Marshal Burns as members will develop the by-laws and present them at the next meeting for approval. NAME: Lengthy and animated discussion was held regarding a name for this new chapter of the Green Party. Many ideas were offered. The ones remaining at the end of the discussion included: Little Traverse Bay Greens Great Lakes Greens Glacial Greens Emmet County Green party White Pine Green Party Robert Emmet Green Party Northwest Greens North Shore Greens Little Traverse to the Headlands Greens Blackbird Greens A formal name will be selected at the next meeting. OFFICERS: The following officers were elected: Co-chairpersons: Steve Brede and Michele Burian; Secretary: Colleen Ryan; Treasurer: Alan Hegedus. The officers will serve for one year. The meeting adjourned at 9:00. The next meeting will be held on November 13, 2002, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Whitecaps Grille, 215 E. Lake Street, cornder of Lake and US31.
